The Anti-Windows XP Service Pack 2 Act of 2005

If your software has a problem with SP-2, contact the manufacturer for
updates/patches.
Sooner or later they will need SP-2 compliant software since that is what is
shipping now.
That is unless the manufacturer does not care for its customers...in that
case time to switch.

SP-2 is no problem on a computer with compatible hardware and software.
You also must be sure all problems, known and unknown, are resolved before
installing updates especially Service Packs.

Their software, their rules.
My computer. at the end of the day they can not force you to install
anything onto your computer, even if they do try to.
the main problem is, Billy Gates and co have got too big and really need
to be cut down to size. If I could get the software I need, I would
change right away to Linux. I am looking at the Apple Mac platform and
if I can get all the software I nee,d then I am going to dump Windows.
As least them, I will be rid of Billy Gates and his unreliable windows.

Thanks for the best laugh I've had today!

I and couple of friends have been scrambiling around on how to decide to
BLOCK Windows XP Service Pack 2 update that Microsoft Corp. that have us
running around crazy wbout why Microsoft plan to Force the Security Update
(service pack 2) to our computers that we worked so hard to get and purchased
the software and now We The People can't do nothing to stop Microsoft's Push.
Microsoft is Breaking the Anti-Trust Laws by forcing the security update to
our computers with Windows XP and Windows XP Service Pack 1 which by the way
I think is the Best and Plan to keep it forever. I bet Microsoft plan to stop
delivering updates to those who plan to keep Win-XP SP 1.

If that happens...........................I will NOT hesistate to SUE
Microsoft Corp. and Bill Gates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honest?! Is it honest to just copy and paste irrelevent links in
response to peoples questions? Because it surely isn't helpful!
Asta la vista forever!

Why would you want to spear the vista forever?

I said the manufacture who made the software sold out to another
company. The old software is not being updated as they want us to buy
the newer software. I do not like the new software, nbecause it is
completly different

Not possible to switch, only a couple of compnaies make anything like it
and I have tried the others but they do not work the way I like.

SP-2 is no problem on a computer with compatible hardware and software.
You also must be sure all problems, known and unknown, are resolved before
installing updates especially Service Packs.

Then in my case, it is best to leave SP2 off, anyway what is the big
deal that you have about me not using SP2?

******Well then answer the question for me.*******
Service Pack 2 is a major critical security update for Windows XP.
It has been successfully installed on over 150 million PCs thus far.
I suggest you relieve yourself of your paranoia and install it at your
earliest convenience.

Has it actually been installed on 150 million PC, or is that how many
copies of it that MS has given out?

| Right, other companies charge for updates to their software, Symantec,

Windows 4.x W95, A, B, C, W98, W98SE, W98ME. If this is not
paing for updates I don't know what is......

The other day I watched this really cool interview with the gates dude.
If you "read" between the lines, he was "warning/notifying" america to
watch out for China, which WILL soon become the world's #1 economic
powerhouse. They have the will, manpower, super
competitive wages, smarts, etc. One thing cool about China is that they
built what, 5 or 10 nulcear missles and then, once they got the
detterent, they stopped putting major money into the program, while the
usa still, each and every year, spends more GNP on missles then the year
before.

I never said it was a big deal...but you just did.
As long as you make an informed decision based on realistic expectations.
You should have little or no problems as long as you treat your computer
accordingly.

There is very little difference in functionality between Win95B fully loaded
with free updates and Windows Me. You can't criticize Microsoft for selling
Operating Systems, it's what they do.

I think the point was that your pay for each version.

Powerquest never me changed for .X update. Just for the next full
version.

MS went from 5.0 to 5.1 and on their NT line and wanted mucho
buckeroonies!

You only pay if you want to, as I said, there is very little difference in

Powerquest never me changed for .X update.

Those are generally bug fixes only.

Just for the next full

And they declare a "Next full version" when they shouldn't, like resize NTFS
support, which should have been a free upgrade, not a full version. Compare
it to a comparable (but better) program like BootitNG which has been adding
major features since version 1.00 Oct 9, 2000, without any added cost, and
are at now at version 1.71. What was PM in Oct 2000, 5.0? Now it's 8.0, and
it really doesn't do anything useful more than it did then.
MS went from 5.0 to 5.1 and on their NT line and wanted mucho
buckeroonies!

Those version numbers are deceiving, most users went from the 9x line to NT
5.1 (Windows XP) which is big leap. Anyone who was using NT 5.0 (Windows
2000) and has kept up with Service Packs and other *free* updates probably
has no compelling reason to purchase Windows XP, unless they *want* to.

Disable the Services - Automatic Updates and Background
Intelligent Transfer Service.

J

Jupiter Jones [MVP]

Not necessary since you can disable Automatic Update in System Properties.
Also with those service disabled, you will not be able to install any
updated from Windows Update.

R

R. McCarty

The tone of the posting didn't really indicate a solution was requested,
just a rant about SP2 being "Forced" on them. Technically, you are
correct about the solution - However, I was trying to send an answer
similar in tone - "Just shut off what facilitates AUs and be done with it".
But I believe even if you shut off Automatic Updates, that the Security
Center shield will show up (Yellow) when updates are available (?),
so I didn't want to supply them a 50%-Keister answer that had a
possible come-back associated with it.

J

Jupiter Jones [MVP]

But it was still half an answer.
It is not uncommon in the Windows Update newsgroup to have someone come in
with a problem with Windows Update.
The cause is they were told to disable those 2 services often to save
resources.
Often the ones giving the advice to preserve resources do not realize it
also disables manual updates from the Windows Update site.

With those services disabled, there will never be a notification about
available updates.
The most the Security Center will show is that Automatic Update is disabled.

R

R. McCarty

Point taken - Next time I'm tempted to "Tone" a response, I'll just
opt for the technically correct/best answer - OK ?
