Thanks for straightening out my shell syntax.
Unfortunately, I'm still expriencing the same problems,
and my applications can't modify the contents of the
folder as long as it's marked read only. There's no patch
for these applications, they're all up to date. While I'm
in agreement with you about how useful the feature is,
I'm still stuck with the restrictions of my applications.
Any idead how I can get these folders marked read/write?

XP comes with a patch making program. Install The Application Compatability Toolkit from the Support Tools folder on the CD and roll your own patch. It's a wizard and you choose your program and tick which ever of the several hundred compat options you want on it.
