Text won't center in a column

I am working in a table, with a column to the left of the page acting as a
main menu. I have the text centered in each cell, and it looks fine in
FrontPage, but when I preview the page in Explorer, the center of the column
seems to be skewed to the left. I've double-checked to make sure that I
don't have extra spaces at the end of the text, or any funny settings within
the paragraph and font options. Any ideas about why this is happening and
what I can do to fix it?

Select the column, then make sure the alignment button in the menu is not selected, then right click
on the column and select cell properties, then set you alignment.
