Text under my desktop icons.

Help.... I have Windows xp home edition 2002. I have a problem with all of
the icons on my desktop whether it be folders or shortcuts etc. For some
reason, the text under the icons seems to be highlighted with a background
color other than the acutal background. We have a picture off the internet
as our background on the laptop. Our desktop downstairs has a similar
background but you can see the background behind the text under the icons
downstairs, you can't on the laptop. Can someone help me? I've searched
around and found "Active Desktop" issues, etc. I've found a few other items
but nothing to explain how to fix my problem. Thank you.

Right click on My Computer, click on Properties, click the Advanced tab, in
the Performance section click the Settings button. Scroll down and check the
"Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" box, and click OK.

Hi,

Right click the desktop, choose "arrange icons by", and look at "lock web
items on the desktop". If it is checked, click on it to uncheck it.

Go to the Control Panel/System applet/Advanced tab, click on the performance
settings button. On the Visual Effects tab, scroll to near the bottom,
ensure that "use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" is checked. If
it isn't, check it and apply/ok your way out.
