text typed into one cell shows up in another

Has anyone ever had this happen to them? I would type text in cell D1226,
hit enter, and the text would diplay in cell Q1226. How does one fix this?
I'm using Windows XP and Excel 2007.

Do you have a formula in Q1226? Maybe it's just retrieving the value in D1226?

If the value D1226 actually disappears, then you may have a macro that's helping
you.

If you're not sure how to check for macros...

Close excel
Reopen excel in safe mode
windows start button|Run
type:
excel /safe

File|open your workbook

Test it by typing something in D1226. Did it do that funny stuff or was it ok?

I had copy-pasted from a pivot table in one tab to another tab in the same
spreadsheet. I copy-pasted VALUES only, so that should have gotten rid of
any macros or formulas, right? I have print-screens if you'd like to see....

Would have gotten rid of formulas but macro could still be the problem.

Did you look for any?

I did try opening it in safe mode, but it gave me a message saying that
"safe.xlsx" could not be found. I clicked OK and it went ahead and let me
open my spreadsheet. I tried typing something in D1226 and this time the
information stayed in D1226. This spreadsheet is my own personal creation,
and I have no macros associated with it. Can a macro run without your
knowledge? Back on Nov 12th, I closed the spreadsheet and restarted the
computer (both a warm and a cold boot) and it still showed the weird display.
Now it's not doing it anymore, so I don't know what to think.... maybe an
Excel glitch? My spreadsheet is almost 76,000 kb, so it's sheer size may be
causing problems....
