Text select crashes IE and/or Outlook

Hi

If I try selecting an area of text in either the IE6 browser or from outlook express it crashes the application. I have tried restore points from up to a month ago, before the problem began, but to no avail. Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Go to Windows Update and make sure all of the critical updates are
installed.
