Text marked "Do not check spelling or grammar" was skipped (Word 2

How do I un-skip this text? I want all of the document to be checked; I
don't want any portion to be marked as 'skip'. I turned off all the smart
tags hoping this would take care of it. I keep going into Tools > Language &
unchecking the Do not check spelling or grammar, but it keeps coming up as
checked.

It's not a protected document. It's a mail merge letter.

How do I tell Word to show me what text is marked to be skipped? I don't
want any text to be skipped.

The text that was skipped was marked "Do not check spelling or grammar." You
need to remove this formatting. Ordinarily, this may be as simple as
pressing Ctrl+A to select the entire document and going to Tools | Language
| Set Language and clearing the check box, then clicking OK. But see
