Until recently I used two freeware text editors: Metapad for "quick
and dirty" and PSPad for the more serious work. I still think both
editors are the best in their respective categories (notepad
replacements and heavy duty programming editors). However, I don't
require all of PSPad features and Metapad appears to be abandonware.
Moreover, I don't use PSPAd for html and css as I use dedicated
editors for those file formats.
So I started the search for an editor which could replace both text
editors. After a lot of downloading and trying out I ended up with
Xint, which appears to have al the features I require in a text
editor, and a few more. BTW, it has column selection (a must imho).
Features list (incomplete) and download url:
http://www.xtort.net/xtort/xint.php
(more good freeware there btw)
A feature I would like to see added to Xint though is a spelling
checker, e.g. Addict (used in CSE Lite) or the one used in PSPad
(which, I presume, is free).
