testing account settings

I am adding an email account and I go to tools and account settings and put
in all my info and then click "test account settings" and this message comes
up..

"Log onto incoming mail server (POP3): Your e-mail server rejected your
login. Verify your user name and password in your account properties. Under
Tools, click E-mail accounts. The server responded: -ERR authorization
failed"

I looked at my user name and password and everything matches up.

Any suggestions on what to do?
