Terminate Win 16 Subsystem?

R

Ron Patterson

Occasionally and unpredictably when I Start/Turn Off Computer/Turn Off I get
the following message;

"The request to exit the selected 16 bit task has timed out. The Win 16
Subsystem may be unstable.
Press OK to terminate the Win 16 Subsystem or Cancel to leave it running."

Sometimes this will go away in a bit and shut down normally.
Other times I can press OK and it will go away and shut down normally.
Other times I can press OK forever and it will not shut down even by turning
the
computer!! I have to either unplug it or use the reboot switch.

Your thoughts?

Do you see Wowexec in the Processes tab in Task Manager? If so, you've
got some Win16 application running on your system. WOW = Windows on
Windows (i.e., it provides an environment under which old 16-bit
application can run).
