Terminal Services & Active Directory Error

D

Dominic Marsat

Server: Windows 2000 SBS

Terminal Client: Windows XP Pro

Logging onto the server as administrator through the
terminal services client and then trying to access
the active directory throws the following error:

'Naming information cannot be located because:
The logon attempt failed'

I've have a good look on the internet and found similar
but unanswered posts.

This also affects the exchange console.

Thanks in advance, Dominic

Anything in the EventLog?
There are many reasons for this error (DNS problem, renamed
administrator account, etc). Check if this helps:

"Access This Computer from the Network" User Right Causes Tools
Not to Work

You Cannot Interact with Active Directory MMC Snap-Ins

Since this has nothing to do with TS and everything with AD, you
might want to repost in an active directory newsgroup.

Nothing unusual. There's a 'Pre-authentication failed' message
in the security log (name: administrator, service: krbtgt, type:
0x2, code: 0x18, address: 127.0.0.1) at the time when I tried
to access the active directory.

I don't think it's a DNS problem - this would surely create
all sorts of other problems on the network. Everything else
is behaving normally + the administrator account hasn't been
renamed.

Yep - I'll try this too.

Interestingly, if I raise my permissions (dominic) to admin
and login using 'dominic', I can see the small business server
personal console and make changes to users that way.

Thanks, Dominic
