Term Serv & MS Office

Hi All,

We're running a Windows 2003 Terminal Server. Office 97 is installed on the
Term Serv and works fine. When I try to install Office 2000, I get an error
message "Need to use the Office Resource Kit (ORK) to install on a Term
Server." I have no idea what an ORK is (I am familiar with orcs...). So
rather than try to pursue that, I was thinking of getting Office 2003. Will
Office 2003 install directly on a Windows 2003 Terminal Server? Or do I need
to also get some kind of ORK? Anything else I should be aware of here?

Is the ORK for 2000 easily available? If so, where do I get it?

Thanks,

Tom

All of the reference material for installing the different flavors of office on terminal server are here

Office 2000 requires the TERMSERV.MST transform which is freely downloadable (as are all of the Office Resource Kits) and works with the Custom Installation Wizard, if you want to further customize the install (highly recommend). Office XP & 2003 do not have not do they need a special terminal server transform (MST), as the install automatically detects the terminal server environment

I would highly recommend that you NOT install from the CD, but instead make an Administrative Installation Point on your network by running "setup /a", which copies all of the setup files to a share, and stores the company name & CD Key. Then you can integrate (slipstream) the service packs into the Installation Point before running the install on the terminal server

You MUST have a valid Office license for EVERY computer that will connect to the terminal server. Make sure you disable background spellcheck on Word when it's running on terminal server, as this can very negatively impact the serve
