temporary internet files

Hi
Would be grateful if someone could give me some advice. When I delete
temporary internet files through ie6 it doesn't delete them from the ie5
folder. These have built up over the year and it now takes me forever to
run any kind of scan. The questions I would like to ask:

1. Can I delete files out of the different folders that are in ie5.

2. Can I delete the folders in ie5.

3. What will happen if I do this?

Thanks

Thanks Frank but I didn't mean that - I know how to delete my cache. I am
talking about the file /temporary internet files/content ie5. I have
browsed the internet now and understand I can delete all the folders in this
except the index folder so I have done this and then done a defrag. Problem
now is that even after only browsing e-bay for about 10 minutes these
folders (which had recreated themselves) were full of graphic files that
amounted to about 7Mgb! - Ebay picture files never went in these folders
before so why now? How do I stop this happening. I only wanted to delete
them because when I did a scan with Norton and the like it took forever
going through all these files - I thought it would speed things up but I
seem to have made it worse.

Please help.

Thanks Henri - I will pluck up courage (argh) and give it a go - (I wish I
didn't have a near nervous breakdown every time I have to do something like
this!) - Why can't operating systems be a little simpler - no - ok don't
answer that one:)

Thanks again
