temporary internet files missing and set to 0MB

yahooisntz

Using IE 6SP1 all critical patches applied on Win XP pro SP1 all critical patches applied. Using hi speed P4 system with a 30G hard drive plenty of space, 256MB RAM. Already scanned for spyware/viruses

IE is loading web pages slow or it's not responding. When I checked Internet Options,Temporary Internet Files Settings. There's no folder location listed with The Amount of disk space to use set to 0 MB. I tried changing settings and it gives me "Place select a value between 1 and 0 for how much disk space temporary internet files may use.." Can't move the folder, It gives me error message choose another folder with more space

Hi,

Do you have a folder called c:\documents and settings\<username>\local
settings\temporary internet files\ ?

Can you browse to that folder with the Move folder button?

Kind regards

Thanks for the quick response
I already have that folder and tried with the move button. Not an exact quote, but it says there's not enough capacity to move.

But If I reboot the system, the folder comes back.
This happens at intervals. I can't find any solution at any knowledge bases. Thanks in advance!

thanks, I found these already. Either they don't apply because I don't have McAfee Safe and Sound, or it's a new install of Win XP/IE. 2 consultants can't fix the problem.

Any more help is appreciated!!

yahooisntz,
You kind of have to read between the lines here .........
In the MSKB article it states a "3rd party" driver\app is conflicting.
However this does NOT occur in Safe Mode ..... this indicates that
this 3rd party is loading from Startup and causing a conflict.

1) Did you log on as Administrator and delete the cache folders?
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

2) Check your Startup apps via Msconfig, or System Information
Can you reset the cache in Safe Mode?

Miike,
Thanks for the tip. I had to wait until the problem happened again at
another users station.
Temporary internet files were at 0MB with no folder location. I tried
setting it to the username\local settings\temporary internet files.
Error message on not enough space. Even though there's gigabytes
available.

I logged in as admin and deleted off the user's temporary internet
files and history (solution #1). Then I had the user log back on and
start using IE. For the next two days that I checked back with them,
they said that IE is running fine. I checked the temporary internet
files setting and it's still there. I can try this with multiple
machines to see if the solution holds.

There might be a driver or app that's causing the problem, but looking
for that is like a needle in a haystack. Thanks very much!!
