Temporary files removal

I'm only a novice and ive been using the tools/internet options/delete
cookies/history and temporary files.
My pc running xp pro was shutting down for no reason and i was told
it could be a ram problem, so i took it down to the local computer
repair shop and they ran the mentest and it was good.
He then checked my temporary files and i had over 450 even though i
had been using microsofts tool to remove them, he told me the system
didn't work and i had to remove them manually and in safe mode to make
sure i got the lot.
He even placed a short cut on my desk top to make more easy for me.
All i want to know whats the best and safest way to make sure i get
the files cleaned out.
thanks

Have the unexplained shutdowns stopped?

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

How large is your hard disk and how much free space. Right click on
your C drive in Windows and select Properties to get this information.

As another has suggested cCleaner is the most effective to remove
Temporary Files but I am not sure that would cause Shutdowns.

You can use cCleaner (freeware) which does a more thorough job.

With any cleaner you need to proceed with caution. To be safe you
should create a restore point before using cCleaner. cCleaner also
offers backup before removal.

When using cCleaner think twice before checking Autocomplete Form
History under Internet Explorer. You do get a warning but this one has
irritating consequences. You may need to restore your system's
recollection of passwords after use so keep a record off computer so
that they can easily be re-entered.

Leave the Scan for Issues option alone.

Hope this helps.
