Template protection

Why when I protect my document, close it and save changes, then reopen it the
protection has either not saved or is not in force?
Is there any way to keep protection on a document when it is closed and
reopened, so that changes can only be made in specific areas?

Version of Word?

Check in the Save As dialog box which file format is selected. If it's not "Word
Document *.doc" or "Word template *.dot" but something else, such as Word 6/95
or RTF, then the protection will be lost.

I have tried to save as both .dot & .doc, both with the same result

Hmmm. I vaguely recall seeing a discussion about this, or something similar, but the
details are gone <sigh>

If you hold CTRL (=Safe Mode) when starting Word, open such a document, apply the
protection, close it, then open it again, is it still protected? If it is, then
there's some kind of Add-in on your system that's removing the protection.

If that's not it, then we need more information

1. Does this document contain any macros? Could any of these macros be removing the
protection?

2. Try booting Windows in Safe Mode and see if that makes any difference.

3. Please tell us exactly which commands you're using to activate the protection (so
that we know which kind of protection we're dealing with)
