Template not saved properly

Following all the steps to create and then save a word template. when I open
it as a document per the training steps i am able to edit all the information
i thought i would'nt be allowed to with out going thru the edit procedure if
that makes any sense

If it is a template, then the only reason you would "open it as a document"
would be to edit it. And when you create a new document based on the
template, you will be able to edit that as well. It may be that what you are
describing as a "template" is a protected form. If that's the case, have you
protected it?
