Some program is causing telnet.exe to run at every
start-up. I have checked the statup menu, and checked in
administrative tools, and cannot fine telnet.exe listed by
itself. Any suggestions? I cannot remember what incident
or piece of software brought this on, but I did see a
posting on another site where McAfee antivirus brought it
on (I'm Symantic, though).

First of all in order to help I need to know what firewall or firewalls you
are using?
Another thing is that if you are using XP firewall then look inside under
advanced tab and look to see if Telnet Services is checked. Another firewall
you will have to supply the information and then I can accurately answer
your question.

Run msconfig.

Start --> Run, type msconfig, click OK. One of the tabs is a list of
things and how they start at boot time. You can disable the unwanted
one by checking a box.
