After rebuilding my XP system, it keep nagging me whenever a new USB drive is
plugged in or a CD is inserted. The worst is when a drive contains multiple
file types - there doesn't seem tb a way to just tell it to not do anything for
any type and remember that the next time the drive is connected.

Some registry setting?

Do some minimal research on "auto play"

Google is your friend.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:0x000000B1

also TweakUI under MyComputer > Autrorun

Any advice is my attempt to contribute more than I have received but I can only assure you that it works on my PC. GOOD LUCK.

Per Larry(LJL269):
also TweakUI under MyComputer > Autrorun

That seemed tb the ticket:

TweakUI|My Computer|AutoPlay|Drives (uncheck all)
|Types (uncheck both)

Some registry setting?

drive: properties >> autoplay >> choose an action

Per Frank:
drive: properties >> autoplay >> choose an action

But it gets messy with multiple option choices for different file types... and,
on my PC at least, some of the "Do Nothing" choices don't persist.
