Hi all I had a hd crash0- replaced it and have migrated backups into the new
hd-running Vista and Office Home & student 2007. On the install Windows mail
shows up. I have had no luck getting Have no luck getting the outlook pst
files and folders into the windows mail. A suggestion I got was to snag a 60
day trial of office 2007, install it, use it to open the pst files, migrate
them to the windows mail then delete the windows 2007. I am concerned I'll
mess up the computer with the second office 2007 running and it seems to
me-what do I know- like an inelegant solution. Help me Mr.Wizard!

H&S doesn't include Outlook, if you had Outlook prior, it must have been an
earlier version
Personally, I would uninstall H&S (I assume you have the cd/dvd & key)
install the trial version & configure Outlook, Then assuming you had located
your old pst's in the Documents folder, then within Outlook, open the old
pst, set that as default using mail management, close the newly created pst.
Then close outlook, import data into Mail.
Once satisfied all ok, uninstall Office 2007, reboot & reinstall H&S

Are you really old enough to remember Tooter Turtle?

You're welcome to download the trial Office 2007 and install only Outlook from
that package, but what were you using before the HD crash? It may be possible
for you to load the Outlook you used when you were using the old hard drive.
How did you create that old PST?

Well... I removed the H & S, installed the freebie Office 2007 configured
the Outlook and attempted opening the .pst file. Got a message" File access
denied you do not have the permission..." WTF?

The file was on the remote backup hd- I just copied the file and moved into a
new folder in the documents file on my laptop. The read only attribute is not
checked. The ownership of the pst file now in the laptop is correct.
Do you recall a TV show named McKeever and the Colonel?

And you get that msg when you, within Outlook, File>Open>Data
File.........and browse to that location & select the pst?

Solved it. Thanks for your assistance.
