TDK INDI DVD Burner Not Recognized in XP

Santa brought me a TDK external 4x indiDVD+/-RW that I
cannot get XP to recognize. I have USB 2.0 installed (SIS
chipset) XP SP1a. I cannot get the drive to be recognized
with either the firewire or usb connections. It is
recognized in my older Win 98 machine. Can anyone help?
 
I cannot get that to install as per the directions. Any
clues what I could be doing wrong?
