TCP/IP setup question

I have a Troy net print server box that I would like to connect to my home
XP station. I know the IP address,subnet mask, gateway that is set in the
print server. Can I setup XP to recognize the box?

How do you connect to the internet? Are you networked to any other
computers? Is the Troy printserver also a router and DHCP server? The
answerto these questions will determine how to setup your PC

Actually I'm not trying to connect to the internet. I'm trying to connect
the box to my home machine so I can write a program to communicate with it.
The Troy box is just a server setup for TCP/IP. It usually connects at work
through a router connected to the network. It has a static ip address with
default subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and a static gateway address
pre-programmed. At work I can access it through IE using the IP address and
also my test application. My home machine does not have a router. I can
connect my main computer to my laptop through a crossover cable. I was just
wondering if there is a way to setup my XP machine to be able to talk to the
Troy box. through the same cable.

You would have to set a static IP address on the XP machine in the same
range as the address of the Troy box. The reason I was asking about the
router etc. is to determine if you were using DHCP to assign addresses.
