TCP/IP Printing

Situation: At work, I have 3 computers in my office. One is running XP, one
Vista, and the other Mac OSX 10.5... There are two printers at my workplace
that are setup with print servers and in Vista and Mac, all I have to do is
hit "add printer", say that it's an IP printer and type in the IP address of
the print server which then pulls up all of the info for the printer,
installs the driver, and everything is good to go... But Windows XP doesn't
have that option.

So, Question: Is there a way in Windows XP to connect to a network printer
just by typing in the IP address like you can in Vista or Mac?

You can still connect but you will have to furnish the print driver. If the
network card is not registered in tcpmon.ini, you will also need to
configure the Standard TCP/IP port using the Custom button. Just configure
it the same way that Vista setup the port. If you have Vista Business or
Ultimate launch printmanagement.msc to get the port configuration. In Home
open the print properties As administrator and check the configuration on
the ports tab.

Ok, so I did what you said and I configured a TCP/IP Port with the address of
the printer, and I downloaded the print driver... So what do I do next? How
do I set up a printer or create a printer object on my computer to connect to
the port I just created?

I got it set up and working, so scratch that last question... thanks for the
help. I wouldn't have ever figured all of that out.
