Printer Sharing on XP for Mac

G

Guest

Is there a way to share a printer connected to a PC with a Mac on my home
network? There is no server sharing IP addressed printer here like at work,
but there must be some way to share a USB connected printer from the PC so
that the Mac can print to it. I have printer sharing turned on, can see it
from another PC, but not see if from the Mac? Thanks for any info!

Install Print Services for Unix on the XP machine. (Windows Components,
Other Network File and Print Services, details)

Enable the service (TCP/IP Print server) to automatically start since it
manual in XP). You will need to open TCP port 515 in any firewall software
you have.

On the MAC machine you need to create an LPR printer. I have never done
this with a MAC so you would need to ask someone else about that. I am not
sure anyone hanging out here in Windows land will have the answer.

The datatype that the TCP/IP print service accepts can depend on the LPR
source. If the output from the MAC is binary on the page you may need to
configure the TCP/IP print service to pass-through the data directly to the
device.

Anyone with a MAC out there?

If I had the $s, I would get one just for fun to see how different they
really are!
