TCP/IP not installed on XP Pro

I have a PC with XP Pro that has been running fine and dandy. Now something
has caused TCP/IP to become uninstalled. On bootup, NAV gives a message that
it is not installed so it cannot monitor emails for viruses. I try to get
the connection to reconnect but it will not.
I ping 127.0.0.1 and everything seems to be OK. I ping the router my pc is
connected to and have no connectivity. I searched the MS KB and found
several articles that tell how to install TCP/IP over the old installation.
I tried these solutions but it has not helped. These solutions require going
into the registery at HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\service\winsock and
deleting that key. Also, deleting the winsock 2 key. My registery has the
winsock 2 entry but it does not have the winsock key entry. I have
reinstalled TCP/IP and the winsock 2 key is restored but the winsock key is
not restored. I don't know if this is significent or not. Any one have any
thoughts or suggestions.

From a command prompt type the following pressing enter after each command
reboot when done.

netsh winsock reset

I had one reply to this post, which I tried and it did clear the problem. I
resopnded to that post with another post indicating the error messages that I
received:
"Unable to reset winsock catalog" and
"The system cannot find the file specified"
Both to these posts have disappeared. What happened? Do I need to start my
post again? Anyone have any new information?
