TCP/IP Issues

J

James Simpson

Hi,

I hope someone can help me because this issue is driving me nuts!

The problem is a simple TCP/IP issue, I can not ping either of my PCs
on the network.

My Setup:

PC1
Windows 2000
Realtek NIC
Name: JASHOME
IP: 192.168.0.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0

PC2 (Laptop)
Windows 2000
SiS 900 NIC
Name: JASWEB
IP: 192.168.0.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0

Each PC only has IP protocol installed, previously they had some of
the other protocols installed which allowed me to partially use the
network browser, this was not working over TCP/IP though!

Each PC is networked through a netgear EN104 hub which appears to be
functioning correctly, afteral the other protocols kind of worked

I have tried the following:

1) Reinstalling Drivers for both NIC cards - No Success
2) Uninstall and reinstall TCP/IP - No Success
3) Moving the PCI port for the realtek card - No Success
4) Crossover cable - No Success
5) Settinng up routes to each PC - No Success
6) Setting up the default gateway to the opposite PC - No Success

My Laptop also has a bluetooth card which is disabled, and the other
PC has a cable modem installed which is also disabled.

PING 192.168.0.1 / 2 returns

request timed out
request timed out
request timed out

Strange things happen on the network received/sent properties tho

Doing the PING on the laptop incrmeents the RECEIVED packets by 4, but
nothing else, I assume this is the PING Command sending packets to the
card which will then be sent on (SENT + 4) and received again
(RECEIVED + 4) So it would appear the PING command is not even being
sent anywhere at all!

Doing the PING on the PC gets to the laptop, but the laptop does not
respond! why the hell not!?)

I am seriously at a loss here

The cards do communicate correctly using other protocols, but just not
TCP/IP is there any HARD uninstall I can perform on the TCP/IP and
network drivers to do a full reinstall of them?

Thanks, James

Are both computers in the same workgroup and do all useraccounts exist on
all computers?
