Help!

I have signed up to broadband with Wanadoo and I have connected up my live box etc - worked for a few days on wireless.

The problem

My wireless system picks up the connection however will not connect, will connect using the LAN connection. I can ping the router while connected to the LAN and it gives me the IP address etc.

When I use the help function on my computer it tells me that the IP address doesn't match (when on Wireless). I have tried to enter in the address manually and the system shows that its connected however I still cannot access internet pages.

If anyone has suggestions on how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated.

have you checked your signal strengths?Added any security settings to the wireless router?
Tried another channel for the wireless, could be interference from some new device....

Thanks for your reply

Thanks for your replay - I was wondering if anyone would.

Okay I haven't changed any of the firewall or security settings.

Now it appears that I can connect on the odd ocassion with router however it is only when there are 3 computers trying to connect and once they disconnect then my connection drops out. However just to completeley throw a spanner in the works it connects on the odd occassion and then drops out.

I'm not sure if I should just replace the router with a netgear router or something.

I wil try changing the channels and see what that does.

Thanks again for your ideas.

Ciao

hmmm, You didn;t mention the make of the router, but if it's a linksys, there are a number of hacked firmwares out there for differrent models that will allow you to increase your signal strenght. But if you are not in the US, then it usually already haas the higher output. But if changing the channle improves the situation, then look at your signal strenghts. if your wireless adapter doesn;t give you a monitor tool, check their site for one, if you don;t get good signal connections will be iffy.

Have you tried moving closer to the router... I agreeing with tjm4fun... Occasional working connection usually means.. weak signal or interfearence. Have you tried Hardwire to rule out hardware issues???

Thanks for the replys - The signal strength is showing as full on the system check diagram. When I try and connect I'm sitting right next to the router.

The machine is an invetel router that has a built in modem, I'm at work at the present and don't have all the specs but will have a look tonight.

I'm at a loss completely??????????????? and will have abald patch as I pull out my hair!

I'm getting a friend to bring a router over and see if that fixes the problem.

Have been looking at a netgear router - whats your thoughts?

Thanks again

Will get some more info later

:~)
