taskbar

since i have installed updates on my computer, the taskbar has gone weird.
The boxes dont appear when an application is open and the language bar has
moved over to the left. if i remove this then the whole taskbar disappears. i
read that it is a docked toolbar but it wont let me move it when the taskbar
is unlocked.
Can anyone help?

This is why I wait at least two weeks before installing any updates,I have
read over a dozen posts like yours all of them have one thing in common which
is the phrase.....after installing windows updates blah blah blah
