Taskbar

I recently did a clean re-install of Windows XP home onto my laptop and
somewhere along the way the standard taskbar at the bottom has refused to be
integrated with the quicklaunch or any other second toolbar. Both toolbars
are separate making a toolbar twice as high as normal! I have tried
unlocking the toolbars, dragging the tops, the sides to re-size them but
nothing works.
Any thoughts?

I'm not exactly sure of what you are describing; but if you right click on
the taskbar it should open a menu that allows to to select toolbars (top) of
menu. If you right click on taskbar go to properties it will allow you to
customize your toolbar/start menu.

Try dragging the taskbar to the left hand side of the screen and
manipulating it over there, then dragging it back.
