Taskbar problem

My taskbar no longer displays buttons for open programs,
making computer use very problematic. Anyone know how to
fix this problem or if there is a patch available?

Reboot your computer while tapping F8. Choose Safe Mode. Does it occur here. If it doesn't occur then follow these steps.

Type MSConfig in Start - Run, choose Selective Startup and clear the 4 checkboxs. Reboot and repeat ticking an extra box each time.

Stop when the problem occurs and report back here.
