Taskbar notification area icons missing

Icons for currently running applications, including
volume control, Palm Hotsync etc do not all appear in the
notification area on the right of the taskbar. Those
that do appear are listed in the "current Items" list in
the task bar properties. Those not shown are in
the "past Items" list, even though they are currently
running.

I found that by using "Log Off" and then "Log On
that all icons "magically" reappear...Another XP "CRAZY
But it cures things for now until MS gets on the bal
and issues a patch etc...

Run regedit and goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg
\BootOptimizeFunction in the right pane create a new string called Enable and
give it a value of N also make sure the file Layout.ini exsists in c:\windows
\prefetch if not use notepad to create one, it doesn't matter if the
layout.ini is zero bytes.
