Taskbar Nightmare

I have been going bonkers for over a week. My taskbar
has a height of about 2 1/2 inches on the bottom of my
screen. I cannot reduce its size. Yes I have unlocked
it. In addition I have a large row of desktop icons &
shortcuts on my taskbar that I cannot remove or drag
elsewhere. If I drag one of the Icons to my desktop and
leave it another different icon from my desktop
immediately in its place. The size of these icons on my
taskbar are much larger than the size on my desktop. I
hace tried adjusting settings to show small icons which
it does for all the OTHER icons on my taskbar EXCEPT for
the Desktop Icons that mysteriously appeared. I just
want to restore a Normal 3/4" high taskbar and start
button on the bottom of my screen. HELP!!!!! please.

Left click on the top of the bar and drag it down to size.

I have tried dragging it down for a whole week. It will
not reduce size. Sometimes I can drag it completely down
so it disapppears totally and then winds up on the TOP of
my screen. I then becomes very hard for me to drag it
back down to bottom.

Sounds like you have a nasty on your machine. Have you run AdAware and
Spybot? Virus scan?

I run AVG Daily which seems to catch most viruses.

This might work...

Right click the Taskbar and click "Lock the Taskbar" to unlock it.
Right click a blank area in the Quick Launch taskbar and choose
View--Small Icons.
Then right click the other end of the taskbar and slide your mouse up to
over Toolbars. At most, you should have "Quick Launch" and "Windows
Media Player," unless you feel you need to have the other toolbars. To
get rid of any toolbars, click the checkmarks.

Don't happen to have the Desktop Toolbar turned on by any chance?

Right click the taskbar/toolbars/desktop
If checked, uncheck it.
