Taskbar Issue

When I hover the cursor over any item on the taskbar (Quick Launch, System
Tray, etc) I can see that a tiny little window opens, probably containing
the name of the item. But the little "mounse" window opens behind the
taskbar. The result is that I can see the top of the thing but can't read
it! How can I get these little guys to open up where I can read them?
Thanks!

Hi Joe,
There's no explanation for this XP behaviour. Mine does it from
time to time: and I bet yours is intermittent too! Right now, for instance,
everything is fine, I can see that all the 'little guys' are all there, from
the Q-Launch to the SysTray. But two days ago, I was left, just as you are,
wondering why it does this. It cannot be a setting because it happens on
and off with no pattern and I'd be very surprised if there was anything you
can do about it. If, by some chance, your problem REALLY is permanent, then
you might try a System Restore, if it bothers you that much. Back to a
point when it worked all right. Bearing in mind that performing a System
Restore is no small thing.

It's not something drastic or something to be concerned about. It's
really quite simple, IMO.

I have indeed restored my computer to a prior date. It's no problem.
However, in this case I had restored it to its factory settings--which is
quite serious--based on faulty advice from Dell On Call.

Joe,
That is what I meant by 'No small thing' if you need to go back,
say, a month, to when you know everything was okay, you can also wipe out
programs that are important to you. Although, System Restore will never
mess with your 'My Documents' folder, so your data is safe from change. I'm
sorry that this has happened to you, you are just going to have to be
patient in resetting things to how they were and re-installing the programs
you had on there. Can I ask, did this solve the original problem at all?

Select Start, Programs, then R-click in the Programs listing to open the
Context menu, Select "Sort by Name". the Z-order of the taskbar area
will be restored and the "little guys" will be in front of everything
again. No "System Restore" needed.
