Taskbar Icons Disappeared After Auto-Update

Yesterday, my WinXP did its auto-update thing, and among that which it
updated was Internet Explorer to version 7. Following mandatory reboot,
all my software icons in the taskbar disappeared. Several reboots did
not restore them.

So, I rebuilt all my software icons to the desktop, then tried to move these
icons down into the taskbar. Not allowed. The taskbar is not locked.

What happened? Why can't I move these icons back down into the taskbar?

Many thanks for the private responses, appreciated. Seems that
auto-update reset Quick Launch to turn it off. Why? Who knows.......
The fix is:

Right click in empty area of Taskbar
Left click on Toolbars
Left click on Quick Launch

It's a switch.

Regards,

Terry
