Task scheduler service will not start

My task scheduler will not start when I go into control panel -> performance
and maintenance -> administrative tool -> services
When I try to start the service,Task Scheduler, I get an error message "
Could not start the Task scheduler service on local computer "..... Error
1717 the interface is unknown.
