i noticed i started to get this after installing
some MSFT fixes. MStask was modified by the fix,
i can tell by the modification date . problems from the even log happen
right after the fixes were put on/

i dont have a firewall,
it seems msft must have made a bad change to mstask ,
Task manager doesnt work

any other help out there ??

on boot i get this in the event log :
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7023
Date: 10/8/2004
Time: 8:49:04 AM
User: N/A
Computer: OEMCOMPUTER
Unspecified error

Your details are sketchy at best. Are you telling us the Task Scheduler
service doesn't start? * You might try
sc query "Task Scheduler"

to see what win32 exit code is generated. You can get sc.exe (service
controller tool) here.

Ok, my mistake. It needs to be the service shortname so try;

sc query "Schedule"
