Task Pane in Windows EWxplorer

I have a task pane come up on the left side of most general windows, like My
Documents or the Control Panel.

However, with Windows Explorer it appears only if I have made a command in
the View|Explorer Bar and brought up a side-bar like Search. When I close
that side-bar, it is replaced with a task pane. It is an odd process and I'm
wondering if this is how the pane works for just Windows Explorer (but
apparently not for most other general windows). Or is there some setting that
needs to be tweaked?
Thanks.

Malke, thanks very much. That's an amazing site and I did find where/how to
download items! My concern is that this 'tweak' will also affect or eliminate
other things that I'm used to having. I don't see any fuller description for
each item, except for what appears to be registry changes (?). So, I thought
I should ask if you can direct me to a source that will tell me what this
tweak will do exactly.
Thanks.

Right-click on Kelly's file and open it in Notepad. You can read what
the file will do.
