Task managers closes

When I open Task Manager in Windows XP Home Edition it
opens for maybe 2 seconds, then closes. It leaves a green
box in the system tray which also closes if you click on
it. I have a virus checker running and it doesn't report
any infection. The definitions are up to date. Any ideas?

w32.spybot worm disables NAV, Msconfig, Regedit and Task Manager:

Rename regedit.exe to regedit.com then:

Download then Merge the edit on line 251 then delete all the files mentioned
in the above link.
