Task Manager

I have Windowsxp home edition and don't appear to have the blaster worm but
have Task Manager problems.
Our local paper had an article about how to examine the computer for it and
a person must access the Task Manager. When I try to access mine by
right-clicking on a blank portion of the task bar, the Task Manager box
flashes on the desktop only momentarily and a small icon appears on right
side of the taskbar. When moving the mouse curser to that icon; the icon
immediately disappears. I had in the past seen the Task Manager be displayed
on the desktop by pushing control-alt-delete when the computer was locked
up. When doing this now, the Task Manager display on the desktop displays
momentarily and the icon appears on the right lower part of the taskbar next
to the other icons and when moving the mouse pointer to the Task Manager
icon; it quickly disappears. All other icons such as the clock and volume
control remain as normal.
The article in the newspaper said to open the Task Manager and (click on
Processes) in the Task Manager and end the (msblast.exe) and this is the
Lov/San infection that has circulated. Then do a search of your computer for
(msblast.exe) and delete all files with that name.
I have never attempted to view the Task Manager before but have seen it only
as a consequence of unlocking my computer so I have no idea if this is
normal for it to be momentary but must assume it is abnormal according to
this newspaper article regarding the worm! I assume also that I have an
improper setting on my computer somewhere that is causing this the Task
Manager to only momentarily display.
Thank You in advance for the help!

I am slightly disappointed that no one has responded to my previous post
regarding my (task manager question).
Possibly to encourage help ,I should have asked "how do I know if I a have
32 or 64 bit computer"!
