Task manager (and regedit) disappear after a couple of
seconds. I don't have a virus. Any suggestions.

But you probably have the "blaster" worm.

Search this group for "rpc" or "remote" or search http://google.com for
the worm's name - for hundreds of tips and links to help eradicate it.

Are you 100% positive that you don't have a worm?

This behavior, which also often applies to MSConfig.exe and
Regedit.exe, is typical behavior of more than one virus/worm, the
three below being the most common:

W32.Klez
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected]

W32.Yaha
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected]

W32.Spybot.Worm
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.spybot.worm.html

Nothing in the original post suggests the Blaster worm to me. Where's
the shutdown warning? Where's the system restarts? The OP never
indicates that behavior, so why do you so authoritatively diagnose
Blaster?
