After trying to pull up Task Manager, regedit, and Hijack this. They
disappear. I know the computer I'm working on has had many viruses and
I'm trying to clean it out.

I've read about the other topics like this and I follow every step and
it still isn't working.

Whaterver is in my comp. also wont let me install Windows XP SP2.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Does HJT disappear in Safe Mode also? If not, run it there and then post
your log on one of the following forums (not here, please):

If HJT won't even run in Safe Mode, try Process Explorer and KillBox. If
no luck, then you'll need to see what is going on from outside the
system with something like a Bart's PE or ERD Commander (very expensive
although I think they have a limited emergency version for d/l).

Without seeing your computer, I don't really want to make a blanket
statement but you might just want to get your data off with something
like Knoppix and wipe the drive and clean-install. It all depends on
your skill level and your patience. You could also take the machine to
a professional computer repair shop (not your local version of
BigStoreUSA).

Many viruses are designed to corrupt and destroy the
operating system. You can always remove the virus file,
but the damage caused by the execution of the malicious
virus code has already been done. Try the following:

How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install

If the "Repair Install" is unsuccessful, then you need to
start from scratch and perform a "Clean Install".

Ok, thanks for the help and quick responses. I think I'm just going to
op for the Clean Install. There are no files of value on there anyways
so it'd probably be the best option in my case. If you think otherwise
let me know.
