Regedit Popup Before Login

R

RandomGeeza

Hi,

Just of late and intermitently, at the point where the blue login
screen appears on a boot. I keep recieving regedit application popup
(event 26). I have been unable to track what it might be related to...
and all searches on Google, have advised it may be virus...However,
they also refer to the Cmd and Task Manager prompt not working....

""Application popup: regedit.exe - Application Error : The instruction
at "0x0112e4ab" referenced memory at "0x0112e4ab". The memory could not
be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program""

&

""Faulting application regedit.exe, version 5.1.2600.2180, faulting
module regedit.exe, version 5.1.2600.2180, fault address 0x00009aa7.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.""

I can confirm that when the error happens, i cannot run Regedit, but do
have the use of Cmd and Task Manager, so i'm guessing it isn't the
virus i have been reading about... and all my virus, malware checks
also prove a blank and yes they are fully updated.

Any suggestions for a fix or work around greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Just a suggestion:
Search for Regedit.com if you find it delete it; it's installed by
malware. The real file is called Regedit.exe

RandomGeeza,

Try this:

* Open Regedit (Start > Run, type regedit, OK)
* navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
* keys 'Search Bar' & 'Search Page' should be changed if they say
regedit.exe
* Double-click 'Search Page' & change to http://www.google.com
* Double-click 'Search Bar' & change to http://www.google.com/ie

Also,
* navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main.
* Change any references to regedit.exe in any search related keys such as
'Search Page'. If so, change to http://www.google.com

ps-If you prefer another search engine, use their address

Hi, have already searched for regedit.com as im familiar with that
issue and i found no entries...???

As for the regedit amendment, I located the keys and they refer to
"Search Page = Microsfot" and Star Page refers to Google.... I can't
see how amending the reg in that manner would stop the rror... any
chance of an explanation?

Regards
