Task Manager

Can anyone tell me how you can determine what processes are running in task
manager? On the Application tab, it is easy to determine what to shut down,
but obviously things running in the background, such as my antivirus, does
not appear in the application tab and I have to end it through the processes
tab. How do I determine what is what? I am having a problem with something
running in the background and I need to try and determine what it is.

Thanks

Thanks for that M and D, that site is very helpful.

Do you (or anyone else) know how to start windows xp with the bare minimum
drivers / programs loading up?? I know in windows 95/98 if you pressed the
shift key when loading, only the basic would load....or would I have to go
through safe mode? If so, how do you get into safe mode?

Thanks

You might try looking in the startup by going to
run
msconfig
startup tab
see what is running there

To get into safe mode tap F8 while your computer is restarting until you get to the menu which lets you select safe mode.
