Hi Had a lot of trouble with lop.com, unable to get rid thought i was going
to have reformat the hard drive a friend spent a few hours on it and we got
rid of it,
used registry mechanic and found over 400 problems fixed them all computer
runs twice as fast now.unfortunatly for some strange reason task manager
didn't work came on here and finally went to to
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Enable/repair the Task Manager (#113)
and it works perfectly i just want to say a big THANKYOU to you all for
taking the time to help out us thickies, if you have ever have a problem with
anything mechanical, cars bikes, engines and the like you only have to say
lol thankyou all....Doo

Hi,

I am in the same boat as Sondra. this problem just started within the last
week or so. I have run every possible spyware, malware, virus and worm scan
and removed everything that showed up (which wasn't much.) I tried all of
the fixes below, nothing worked except the renaming busisness, but, like
Sondra, I can't get into msconfig. Oddly, regedit was restored with one of
the fixes I tried. What else can I do, this is ridiculous!!!!

Thanks for anymore help.

The latest: I just discovered that my disk defragmenter either won't open or
has disappeared. Is this related or a separate problem?

Hi
I am in the same situation as Philly lawyer. task manager, Regedit,
msconfig and and disk fragmenter flash on for about 1 second and then go off.
I ran a scan with Norton anti-virus in Safe Mode but nothing showed up except
when I rebooted my task bar, address bar and the background for my control
panel are gone and replaced with a "sick" beige color. Like Philly lawyer I
tired the fixes listed here but to no avail. This all began about 1 week ago.

WOW...you just saved me hours of work! My task mgr had lost it's top menu
bar renduring it useless and wouldn't close without doing a restart. I was
ready to do a radical thing..reinstall the OS...because 'system restore'
couldn't help me (it isn't working either.)
Thanks a million. Lots of other excellent links in there too...Great!

Now I just have to fix one more issue...startup error...."Smartbridge
alerts....entry point not found".

Task Manager Menu Bar and Tabs Are Not Visible:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=193050

It's an old "feature" that pre-dates Win XP.

Re: Smartbridge Alerts entry point not found, what is the full complete message,
and what internet service provider do you use? Some ISPs use a process as part of
their support system to allow users to submit files and information. It is not
necessary and can be disabl;ed from your startup group through msconfig> Startup
tab. The name of the app will depend on your ISP, so have a look through your
startup group.

If you are using a beta version of IE7, see here:
http://groups.google.com/group/micr...point+not+found&rnum=5&hl=en#c452ae97cdf58366

Thanks so much for this post!! It fixed the problem I was having with the
Task Manager!
