Until recently, I had a shutdown menu item between the View and Help Menu
items. I do not know when it disapeared but it had to be while I was trying
to get the ATI Vidio card Multimedia Console working. (Still refuses to
Install). Anyway when the computer refused to respond, I clicked on the Tray
Icon to bring up task Manager to click on the Shutdown Menu and it was no
longer there. What happened?

NoClose removes access to Stand By, Hibernate, Turn Off, Restart and Log
Off (User Name) from the Shut Down menu in Task Manager, but leaves the
menu.

If XP Pro use Group Policy...
Remove and prevent access to the Shut Down command

If not Pro...
Open the Registry Editor...
Start | Run | Type: regedit | Click OK |
Navigate to...
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Set NoClose to 0.

Also...
NoClose

To add to Wesley's advice, if you are using the Classic Logon prompt to log
on your computer then there will be NO Shut Down Menu on the Task Manager.
What happens when you use the CTRL+ALT+DELETE key combination, does the Task
Manager appear or a Windows Security windows appear??

The Windows Security Manager appears as It always had in the past.. I am
running XP Pro SP2 and I supposedly am up to date per the windows update
site. I am set for automatic updates. I checked the Registery and could not
find "noclose" in the registery and I have no group policies set that I know
of. Thanks.

Sounds like to me you are using Classic Logon. When using Classic Logon the
Task Manager will not show the Shut Down menu.

To verify what type of Logon you are using, go to the Control Panel > User
Accounts > Change the way users log on or off. If the Welcome Screen is not
checked then you are using the Classic Logon, there for no Shut down menu
will not be present for the Task Manager.

That was the problem. I have been using auto logon so did not notice the
change. Thank You.

Thanks Wesley.
