I would like to have the green icon that shows computer activity on my task
bar, but I can't seem to get it consistantly. Somettimes it's there sometimes
not. I am not hiding inactive icons.

Welcome to the club. It shows up about 1 in 20 times on my fully patched XP
machine. If you find a reliable solution I would love to hear about it.

I have switched to Process Explorer:

It does more and reliably appears in my system tray.
