task manager flashes and reg edit flashes then goes away immediate

when i hit control, alt delete to get to the task manager screen, it flashes
and disappears. I cant manually turn off programs via this method and check
system running status. I just tried to do something to my regedit file and
the same thing happened. When i go to run, and type in regedit, it flashes
and goes away. how can i fix this.

Have you virus checked your system with the latest definitions for your AV
program?
