task manager error

When I try to close Windows XP, I get taskmgr.exe application error.
Application failed to initialize (0xc0000142). I have looked on the MS
website and on google and nothing is fixing this problem...even installed
some service pack updates and it still happens. Any help you can offer to
fix this would be greatly appreciated - doesn't bother my programs, just is
annoying!

I would suspect some type of malware (virus/spyware), as Task Manager is not required to shut down Windows XP, and as far as I know, is not invoked in the shutdown process. Ensure that your antivirus software is up to date and scan your system in Safe Mode (See Help and Support for more information on Safe Mode). Additionally, you may want to check out anti-spyware programs, such as:
