Task Bar Problems

Ok I am not sure if this is the appropriate place because
I have never needed help before. I am running Windows XP
Professional on my home computer and my task bar
won't "disappear". You know when your task bar hides to
provide more screen space? Well mine suddenly stopped
doing that. Is there any way I can fix this?

control panel
taskbar and start menu
Make sure the autohide is selected
click ok

Right click on an empty part of the task bar and make sure "lock the task
bar" is unchecked....
