Task Bar nt hiding icons

I have done something to stop the task bar from hiding
unused icons.
I have gone to properties and hide icons is checked and I
reset them/it to the default value.
I have rebooted several times.
Using XP Pro SP2

Can anyone offer help?

Just make first icon always hide and see what happens.

To do this:

Right-click on the taskbar
Properties, Customize
Select the first item and change it to Always Hide
